Handgun Hunter’s AlmanacFrom cartridge to field to table

About the Almanac

Handgun Hunter’s Almanac is an independent publication about hunting with handguns. We are built for the hunter who wants more challenge than a rifle offers, the one willing to pass shots, close the distance, and earn the harvest with a sidearm and real marksmanship.

Hunting with a handgun is a demanding, rewarding discipline. It rewards patience, practice, and restraint, and it punishes the careless. Our job is to help you do it well: choose the right iron and cartridge, learn where the handgun excels and where it does not belong, and carry the safety, legality, and ethics that the sport requires.

What we cover

Our work is organized into five departments. The Quarry covers game species and shot placement. The Iron covers revolvers, single-shots, optics, and gear. The Cartridge matches calibers to game and range. The Field covers getting started, marksmanship, regulations, and ethics. Field to Table covers field dressing, butchering, and cooking the wild game you bring home.

How we work

We write for hunters, not for hype. We do not glorify long, low-percentage shots, we do not cut corners on safety, and we always point readers back to their own state and local regulations, which vary widely. Caliber guidance is general and qualitative; for exact load data, always use a current reloading manual. Our standards are spelled out on the Ethics & Safety page.

Who writes the Almanac

Articles are written and edited by the Almanac editorial desk. We are an independent publication and are not affiliated with the former Handgun Hunter Magazine. Nothing here is legal advice or formal firearms instruction. Seek qualified, in-person training and know your local laws. Reach us through the contact page.
