Since I am going to be swimming in unfamiliar waters, looking for some input. Who here hunts with auto pistols, any wisdom , advice or stories to share. I realize it's not going to be a lot different that hunting with revolvers, just curious as to your experienses...thanks!

I have a 45 ACP 1911 that I may try to stoke up some +P rounds for. It has the Wegland mount and a 25 mm dot.
May try to kill a deer or. Javelina when I am in Texas
I would love to learn more about using the 45 super brass.
What lb spring do you need for a hot load like that 18 lb

I?ve killed a few hogs with a 10mm Glock, both a G20 and G40. I?ve never loaded for it, just used the 180 grain flat point from HSM. Usually high shoulder shoot ?em to anchor, then walk up for a head shot. I?ve killed several in a corral trap with head shots when they get still. Had one to take a run at me once, I had already saw him and had my G20 in my hand. From about twenty feet he decided he didn?t want me around and grunted, then came for me. Luck was with me and I nailed him between the ears at about five feet. Sure was glad I already had my pistol out, ?cause they are quick when they want to be !
I have a 40? corral trap that I use. The last two I killed in the trap were killed with a .40 Short & Weak, it was all I had on me. It was less than spectacular because my Jack Russell got in the trap with them and it became a rodeo. I finally poked enough holes in them that they got weak and I killed them with head shots. It took a full mag(7), and a reload(6) to get it done. Two morals to that story, don?t let your dog get in the trap and use enough gun. Bob Ruark rolled in his grave that morning ! :-)

I?ve taken deer and pigs with a .40 S&W and 155/180gr HST to good effect. Very pleased with the results. Taken pigs with a 10mm and 180gr XTP with good results. Tried a .45 ACP with 230gr HydraShok Bullets a couple times on pigs and it sucked balls!!! Want to try some 185gr GD. Maybe they can revive my opinion of the .45 ACP.

I've done multiple deer/groundhogs with .357 Sig (best bullet 125 Gold Dot), .40 S&W (best bullet 165 Sierra JHC), & .45 ACP (best bullet by far 200 gr. Horn. XTP). I've used lead bullets in all these on deer. Not very pleased with results, except .45 200 gr. H&G was fairly good. Most bullets in the .40 were pretty poor, especially Gold Dot and XTP. Not a lot of .357 choices. Leads were poor. Gold Dots were fair. Never tried Sierra JHCs. Gotta get close with the Sig for any kind of decent results.

I have had good luck with the WW 230 gr. JHP in my 45 ACP guns.

I like hunting with semi's as well. Mostly 10 mm and 45 acp. In my experience and I own and use revolvers as well. I tend to get better accuracy from my revolvers. My range limits on game are 25 yds with the semi and about 60 with the revolvers. Iron sights on both. I'm sure an optic would increase range with either.
