I'm in the process of testing my own recoil threshold. I should get my .44 mag 12" hunter barrel back this week after having it re-chambered to .445 Super Mag. I'm pretty sure it will test my limits just fine. Worst case is that I will load it down a bit. So far, I really enjoy shooting my next biggest, a 375 Winchester in a 14" barrel with a brake.

Abner, your project is what I've had in mind for quite awhile now. I haven't come across a hunter barrel yet at a price that interests me to keep the cost down following the rechamber. I look forward to your reports once you get things up and rolling. Who's doing the reaming for you?

Hey BT - I'm having a local gunsmith do the re-chamber. He has a good reputation locally and I have used him before. I only paid $180 for the barrel and the re-chamber is $100, so I'm still lower than I could order a new custom for. It may be a few weeks before I get everything in place, but I will be posting my progress as it comes. I'm like a kid at Christmas right now.

Sounds good. Yes, the overall cost approaches a new custom barrel, but sometimes we just want to be different. TC folks are that way.

Hey Greg, funny the first time I am on here in years and this is one of the first posts I see. I'm not building big bore revolvers anymore short of rechambering my own 480 Blackhawks to 475. The funny part is I am building another 458 Lott Encore barrel as I sold mine way back as well as the others I had built for customers. At the same time I have a project going with the 450NE, 500-450NE and the 500NE. Should be interesting to say the least. Anyways I figured those fit the title of your post. If I decide to,do,it for a,business again I will do all the big bore black powder cartridges up to 45-120 as well as the ones listed.

Thanks guys. I'm still kicking been a wild and rough couple of years so shooting took a back seat for a while. As you saw from my post I still have a love of all calibers large. I am considering getting my FFL back but this time just sticking with repairs and action work. Last time I got myself in a trouble when I went down and had a bunch of custom Rugers underway. Fortunately Jack Huntington helped me out. I am playing with the really big stuff right now in the Encores to see where the realistic limit is. When I was doing the 458 Lotts before they sold fast. I think it's 10% guys hunting big nasty stuff and 90% Ego. It is impressive when your at the range and one of those big buggers goes off and then you pull out a cigar sized case
;\)
Anyways I will fill you guys,in more later. I will be around on a regular basis again.
