Recoil of the big handguns has been discussed lately, and is a pretty constant topic here anyway.

I want to share this short video that is part of my handgun hunting video. I apologize for the marketing aspect of it; that is NOT my intention here.

I hope you enjoy.

The hardest recoiling revolvers I currently own are my .500 JRH Bisley and my .500 Maximum. Fortunately the quality custom grips mitigate much of the negative effects. My .500 JRH BFR is stout as well, but to a lesser extent than the other two. That said, both of those revolvers loaded to spec pale next to my .50 Alaskan revolver- that I no longer own. That thing was a four -pound rodeo.

A cheap and easy way to somewhat reduce the felt recoil of any handgun is to just buy a shooting glove. Some "recoil" sensitivity comes from muzzle blast and adequate hearing protection can be a big help.

The heaviest recoiling round that I've shot and taken game with is a full length 458 Win Mag case necked to .411.....the gun had a laminate, center grip, wooden stock....it was one hell of an effective round, but it kicked like a Mule.

The hardest recoiling handgun I ever shot and owned was a 454.
Not much I know but it still stung. I eventually got rid of it.
44 is my limit now. Have a factory break on the 30-30 barrel and it is a pleasure to shoot and accurate.

Thanks Gregg for that video.

The first time I shot my Encore 460 (no brake and off-handed) I wanted to chest bump my high school football team...from 25 years ago. Needless to say none of those guys were there. First time on the bench with it I thought about giving it away around shot #8. Gloves help as does moderation.

Worst I ever had was an old, original Contender in a short, light 44mag bbl. The other one was a FA83 in 454 Casull with a 3"bbl and no ejector rod. They call it the "Packer". It was one of the coolest little back-up guns I ever carried here in Alaska, but that thing did nothing but hurt. I've shot .500 Linebaughs on a SBH frame that didn't hurt that bad.
