Working Sucks!

My hunting season is shot down the tubes already! God has blessed me with a great paying job. Of course i am grateful for God's favor but since i have been in my new role. My time in the woods is getting very low. I am a ways from retirement but i can't hardly wait!

Re: Working Sucks!

I know the feeling, although at 66 I choose to keep working. Mostly because it is also a good paying job, and I work 2 weeks on and off 2 weeks. Unfortunately a lot of my weeks on are during various hunting seasons.

On the bright side, I am collecting full social security with no penalty with how much I make.

Re: Working Sucks!

The worse thing about retirement is that your body is not as ready to do the things you wanted to do 40+ years ago.
I did 12-20 hr. days for 46 years. Now I try to hunt 6 days a week, but most of them are half days. When I do all day hunts out of state/country my body rebels and I have to take a few days off to recuperate. Oh, the Golden Years.....

I replaced the roofing on my house a couple of years ago. wvhitnam, junebug, I am convinced that they make asphalt shingles heavier than they used to. There will be no more throwing a square on my shoulders and running up a ladder.............NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Re: Working Sucks!

I guess the main thing to remember is having good health, whether you are working or retired, without it either can be a problem everyday. Enjoy life while you can.
I've been retired 13 years & I've never looked back once.

Re: Working Sucks!

For the past 40 years as a Merchant Marine I have worked a day on day off schedule so I am off 6 months a year. Like John McDonald's Travis McGee, I have been taking my retirement out in installments, so I figure I have 20 years vested \:\)

Re: Working Sucks!

I feel your pain. Retired a year and a half ago but was only off for 7 months before I had to go back due to health care coverage. Retirement health care sucks under 65 and super expensive. Job I have now is fine for what it is but no time off for the first year other than some holidays. This may be the first year I don't get out at all for deer season. Really hard to deal with as November approaches.

Re: Working Sucks!

I?ve been blessed with a recent promotion and better money and hours of 4-10s Monday-Thursday. For the past 7 months I was on a rotating shift of 7on-2off and half or more of those 12 hour days. Prior to that 4 years of commission sales that made me feel too guilty to take off as much as I?d have liked to.

Hang in there, things will turn up.

Re: Working Sucks!

I got my 35 years in, and retired 13 years ago.

My brother had heart surgery, and I volunteered to work in his place at the local Old Time Hardware Store until he got back to work, so they did not hire someone to fill in who wanted to keep the job. About two months after my brother came back to work the Store Manager died unexpectedly. I started working two days a week at that time. That has expanded to 3 days a week and 8 - 12 every other Saturday.
The part time job does help with my Play Money Fund for gun, etc.

The down side, My next Saturday morning to work is, Opening Day of the Missouri Deer Season.

I guess I will need to schedule my Big Buck to come by my stand in the afternoon. \:\)

Re: Working Sucks!

I've been blessed with a new title and less pay. I'm salary, and have been working 12 hrs a day and am currently on the job site now.

As we say in the oil and gas field, I'm fixin' to drag up. Probably after deer season, I've got all of my vacation scheduled then!
