Re: Photos by Sawfish

Actually, that is not my gun. It belongs to a friend of mine from Minnesota. He brought it to the YO Ranch Handgun Hunt one year to use for dispatching unruly management does, but I was the only one foolish enough to give it try. It is actually not too bad to shoot. The Full Bull Barrel and J.D. Jones' Fish Gill Brake really soak up the recoil. I had fleeting thoughts of getting one for myself, but the cost of shooting on a regular basis is prohibitive, and it is no packing pistol. A few details about the hunt. When it was doe culling time Scott uncased the .470 and announced that we were to use it on our does. My 6'4" 300 lb. friend from New York passed on shooting the .470. (Yes, I have friends from New York and Minnesota, even New Jersey!). My turn to shoot the .470. Unfortunately, this was the only Sika doe we could locate. At 60 yards, she stopped and stared at us, and I shot her right behind the shoulder. To our surprise she took off. (In retrospect, I should have dead centered her shoulder with the solid.) We followed her almost 65 yards through the Palmetto thicket with blood spraying from both holes. When we got to her, she was completely bled out. During the "autopsy" I noticed something strange about the lungs. There was large bruise imprinted on both lungs in the shape of her ribs. Never saw that before. The .470 Nitro was fun to shoot, and definitely more than enough gun in this situation.

Thanks to James for posting the photos.
